Dancing in September
Cue Earth, Wind & Fire’s classic song that DJs have on repeat throughout the month, especially on the 21st, “Earth, Wind & Fire Day,” it’s a whole vibe. We’re celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary this month (22+ years together) and cruising to Alaska! We’ll share pics on the other side.
We continue to place pins on the map that represent independent bookstores we visit. During a weekend trip to New York with a special aunt, we stopped by Liz’s Book Bar and Magic Books. While out and about, we learned that, like us, she is a huge James Baldwin fan. Auntie regaled us with tales of meeting him and getting his autograph on a napkin decades ago. Does she still have it? Yes, yes she does. Speaking of James Baldwin, our post on August 2 honoring what would have been his 100th birthday resonated with a lot of folks. As the kids say these days, Baldwin was a real one. He spoke clearly and courageously about race, injustice, social justice, and sexual identity at a time when the mention of such things wasn’t en vogue.
Did you take advantage of Queer Your Bookshelf last month? We did! We’re looking forward to jumping into:
Bespoke by L.M. Bennett
The Honeymoon Mix-Up by Frankie Fyre, and
Queen of Murder by Edale Lane
We’re sending a huge ‘thank you’ to Tuesday Harper and Katherine Blakeman. Tuesday included THIS: A Simple Complex Love Story in her list of Women Loving Women (WLW) books and Katherine Blakeman included it in her blog, “150 Sapphic Books That Haven’t Received Enough Love!”
ICYMI, we were spotlighted by Scott Coatsworth of QueeRomance Ink. Check out the interview here.
Lastly, there’s a saying we often used in the military, “trust but verify.” There are just two months until the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday, November 5. Please verify that you’re registered to vote and make a plan to do so; there is no time for complacency. To register to vote or get more information, visit Vote.gov or Vote411.org. Make your voice heard.
Cheers,
Naomi
