Let’s take a collective breath
We took to heart the advice Forever FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, provided during her Democratic National Convention speech… we DID something. We wrote postcards, donated, shared local voting information, and encouraged family and friends to exercise their right to vote. Now, beyond using the four-square breathing technique, it’s up to “We the People” to get out and vote.
Since our last newsletter, we participated in an authors panel, “Black Love and Romance Writing: An Act of Resistance and Rebellion,” at the Baltimore Book Festival. The panel was sponsored by our friends at Charm City Books and we had an opportunity to meet so many authors sharing their incredible stories. Of course, hanging out with authors resulted in many more books being added to the ever-lengthening TBR pile. Before this wonderful panel, we had the opportunity to rest a bit and experience the beauty of Alaska while on vacation. The beauty of our country is breathtaking.
Good news! One of our short love stories is included in the forthcoming anthology From a Black Perspective: The Homeland scheduled for publication on November 12.
Going wide! To help independent bookstores, we’ve become a Bookshop affiliate. Periodically, we’ll share our favorite new releases and classic books that we love with you. Bypass the giant online sellers — on Bookshop, authors earn twice as many royalties while supporting independent bookstores at the same time. We’ll also earn a small commission. When you decide to purchase books, you identify the shop of your choice anywhere in the country and the bookstore benefits. We’ll share our recommendations soon.
Finally, what’s better than a contest with a prize for free books?!? Fellow Queer Women of Color (QWOC) authors are sponsoring a Sapphic Giveaway Extravaganza. Enter the drawing here.
Gratefully,
Naomi
