Stroll through a garden (or two)

Hello Friends,

Welcome to our newest friends that we met at a Baltimore County Public Library author event — we’re glad you’re here.

Hellebores, peonies, irises…OH MY! You’ve only had to read one newsletter or blog to know that we think flowers make things better. Up until a few weeks ago, a conversation with Spring went something like:

Me: Yoo-hoo Spring, temperatures have been all over the place… 75, 34, 48, 37, and 82 degrees. Where are you?

Spring: See, what had happened was…

Now, it’s consistently warmer, the garden is gardening, and flowers are flowering. Studies show that gardening has a positive affect on improving mental health and wellness. For us, there’s no better way to celebrate Mental Health Awareness month than mindfully strolling through a garden and breathing deeply. Bees and butterflies are welcome here. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that a hummingbird or two will visit after planting hibiscus, zinnias, and several butterfly bushes.

We’re making it official!

Going forward, you’ll witness a slight change in the author bio wherever such things appear.

Naomi Rivers writes lesbian romance and women’s fiction. Naomi Rivers is a wife writing team who believes in romance, fairy tales, and happily ever after. Their first novel, THIS: A Simple, Complex Love Story, was written over twenty years to maintain their connection during multiple deployments. They are both retired U.S. military veterans and reside with their two rescue dogs on the east coast. Naomi’s work has appeared in I Heart SapphFic’s anthology Favorite Scenes from Favorite Authors. Their second book is in progress, with a release pending in 2024.

On occasion, “I” and “we” may be used interchangeably because quite frankly, trying to keep it all straight is weird. However, we’ve been a writing team since day one. Folks are surprised at author events when two of us show up and they marvel that we write together in one voice. (Well, often there are two voices, but you know what we mean). Check out the podcasts on Naomi Rivers Books to hear how we create together. We’ll be talking a little more about this during upcoming author events. Speaking of…

Upcoming Events

If you’re in the DMV area on Saturday, May 25, join us at The Westin Downtown (999 9th St., NW, Washington, DC 20001) from 2-3:30pm. We’re participating in the DC Black Pride Writer’s Forum with banned book author George Johnson, author of All Boys Aren’t Blue. In June, our county library has agreed to feature THIS: A Simple, Complex Love Story as a Pride Month selection and we will be at the Woodlawn Reading Festival on Saturday, June 29. I have a cute new shirt for upcoming events.

As we celebrate the start of summer, please pause on Memorial Day, May 27, to remember those who sacrificed all in defense of our great nation.

Happy Reading!

Naomi
